"An egg on bread is slippery"

RED

A series of works on paper by Katka Adams
At Barratt Galleries from April 17 to May 14.

Katka and her mother moved to Australia 40 years ago as political refugees from Czechoslovakia following the Russian invasion. Her drawings are inspired by their journey together, childhood experiences and the colour of Prague in the 1960’s. A drab palette of ochre, yellowing creams, army green, beige, grey and soot black of the city is juxtaposed with the vibrant red of communist flags and slogans. The theme of red is used in a personal and symbolic way, tying these drawings together.
